gem emeralds and peridots

Here are a few gems (Uparatna) as alternatives to emerald for your Jyotish prescription. The peridots on this page are superior color and clarity and are great value if you'd rather not buy an emerald. The vast majorithy of peridots available in the market are not suitable for Jyotish because they contain black spot types of inclusions or large fractures or their color is too "olive" toned. Occasionally, we find some peridots that have excellent color and clarity--here they are! |

Green Tourmaline This color tourmaline is rare; it shows a fine green color from every direction, without the brownish overtones that are so common in green tourmaline. Also, most green tourmalines show black along the "c" axis. (The "c" axis is the direction along the long dimension of the tourmaline crystal.) Even though many gem dealers sell "green" tourmalines that are brownish from some directions and/or black along the "c" axis, I believe those stones aren't suitable for Jyotish recommendations so I was happy to find this pure green gem!
